Central Bible University broke open a scoreless match with three second-half goals Monday evening, earning a 3-0 road victory over Manhattan Christian College in the Midwest Christian College Conference opener at Frank Anneberg Park.

The Saints improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in MCCC play with the victory, while Manhattan Christian fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Central controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Thunder 30-2 and holding a 16-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Saints also generated 10 corner kicks compared with just one for Manhattan Christian.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities, CBU was unable to break through during the opening 45 minutes. Central attempted 13 shots and six corner kicks in the first half, but Manhattan Christian goalkeeper Chase Powell helped keep the match scoreless with six saves.

The Saints continued to apply pressure after halftime and finally broke through in the 62nd minute.

Zackary Hathaway put Central in front at the 61:15 mark, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Paulo Filho.

Just over five minutes later, Rafael Agapito doubled the advantage. Pedro Santos set up Agapito for his first goal of the season at 66:47, giving CBU a 2-0 lead.

Agapito struck again less than eight minutes later, scoring his second goal of the match at 74:07 off an assist from Pedro Freire Franca to complete the scoring.

Agapito led the Saints offensively with five shots, three shots on goal and two goals. Santos and Moise Kato each attempted six shots, while Paulo Filho added three shots and two attempts on goal.

Santos, Filho and Freire Franca each recorded an assist.

Central's defense limited Manhattan Christian to just two shots for the match and only one attempt on goal. Starting goalkeeper Jake Gracey did not face a shot on goal during his 74 minutes in net before Noah Linder finished the match and made one save to preserve the shutout.

The Saints finished with a 17-2 advantage in second-half shots after holding Manhattan Christian without a shot during the opening half.

CBU, now ranked No. 5 in the first NCCAA Division II Men's Soccer poll that came out on Tuesday, travels to Fulton on Thursday to face Westminster College.
