Jack Defreitas will begin his 16th season as men's basketball head coach at Central Bible University in 2026-27 and his 20th season overall as a collegiate coach. He has served in two separate stints with CBU, leading the Saints from 2007-09 before returning to the helm in 2013.

In addition to coaching, Defreitas served as the College's Director of Athletics for nine years from 2013-23. He has overseen all sports information responsibilities since 2013 and has officially served as Sports Information Director since 2023.

Defreitas is the all-time wins leader among CBU men's basketball coaches with 177 career victories and owns the highest winning percentage among coaches in program history. In 19 collegiate seasons, he has been a part of 253 career victories, three conference championships, and an NCCAA Division II National Tournament appearance.

The Saints finished the 2025-26 season with a 14-14 overall record and an 8-4 mark in Midwest Christian College Conference play, placing third in the league and finishing just one win shy of forcing a three-way tie for the MCCC championship.

In 2017-18, the Saints captured the first conference championship in program history by finishing 6-2 to earn a share of the Midwest Christian College Conference title. Just two seasons earlier, CCCB produced one of the finest campaigns in school history, winning 19 games—the second-highest total in program history—and earning the program's first appearance in the NCCAA Division II National Tournament.

Defreitas made his head coaching debut in 2007 and was named the 2007-08 Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) Coach of the Year. The following season, he guided the Saints to a school-record 20 victories while spending much of the year ranked among the NCCAA Division II Top 10.

Following the 2008-09 season, Defreitas spent four years as an assistant coach at Asbury University, then an NAIA Division II program in Wilmore, Kentucky. During his final two seasons, he served as the women's basketball recruiting coordinator, top assistant coach, and junior varsity head coach after spending his first two years as the top assistant with the men's program.

Defreitas helped the Asbury women's program achieve unprecedented success, recording its first two winning seasons in school history. The Eagles won their first Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) championship in 2011-12 with an 18-13 record and a 9-2 conference mark before following with a 23-10 season and a second consecutive KIAC Tournament championship game appearance in 2012-13.

On the men's side, Defreitas helped guide the Eagles to a 20-8 overall record and a share of the KIAC championship in 2010-11 with an 11-2 conference finish. The title was only the second conference championship in program history, while the 11 conference victories established a new school record.

As a student-athlete at Central Christian, Defreitas was a three-year team captain, led the Saints in scoring as a senior, and set the program's single-season three-point record. A 1997 graduate of Moberly High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in General Ministry from Central Christian in 2007 before completing a Master of Science in Sport Administration from Arkansas State University in 2017.

Defreitas and his wife, Tina, a 2008 Central Christian graduate, have four children—Kirsten, Kara, Kameron, and Kacie. They reside in Moberly and attend Timber Lake Christian Church.
